I expected the illegible and the deeply buried in me to be read as if carved on my forehead, just as I expected the obvious and the ill-concealed to be hidden from view.

Do you know the story of Achilles and Penthesilea…yes, so basically, Achilles meets her on the battlefield outside Troy, kills her, and then decides that, hey, she’s actually really pretty! And then according to some Byzantine sources, of course, he rapes her corpse, which isn’t very romantic. Sorry, I know it’s Valentine’s Day….don’t get any ideas from this.
Professor, on the Achilles/Penthesilea myth used as a simple visual cipher for undying love on tombs in the mature Roman empire
Without this playing with fantasy, no creative work has ever yet come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable.

Sensation tell us a thing is.
Thinking tell us what it is this thing is.
Feeling tells us what this thing is to us.

Friend leaves their copies of Plato’s ‘The Republic’ and Orwell’s ‘1984’ on your bed…

  • Hope they don’t remember they left them in your room because you want to read them.
  • Hope they don’t go on tumblr, read this and remember they left them in your room.
  • Wish your friends would read faster so you could borrow their books sooner.
  • Settle for reading the sections they’ve sticky noted to get an in depth view at the inner workings of their mind. Especially because they hate when you do that.

Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8 colour boxes, but what you’re really looking for are the 64-colour boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself a 64-colour box, though I’ve got a few missing. It’s okay though, because I’ve got some more vibrant colours like periwinkle blue at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-colour boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colours of life, of feeling, of articulation, so when I meet someone who’s an 8-colour type, I’m like “hey girl, magenta!”, and she’s like, “oh, you mean purple!”, and she goes off on her purple thing, and I’m like “no-I want magenta!

I think I’m a little more open minded. I want Royal Blue or Cobalt or Ultramarine or Lapis Lazuli.

As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life—so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls.
